New Zealand film, TV revs to June '07 off 5.2%

But distribution sector revenue up 22%

SYDNEY -- New Zealand film and television revenue fell 5.2% in the year ended June 30, 2007, to NZ$2.45 billion ($1.97 billion), led by a drop in productions.

A Statistics New Zealand survey released Thursday showed production and postproduction revenue fell 14.7% to NZ$1.04 billion ($810 million), from the same period in 2006.

Revenue from visiting U.S. productions fell 26.3% to NZ$239 million on the year, the survey showed.

New Zealand's own contribution to the screen production sector rose by 2.7% to NZ$414 million ($320 million) for the year.

While production revenue was down, distribution revenue was up, increasing 21.8% to NZ$192 million ($157 million).

The largest share of the country's industry revenue came from TV broadcasting, accounting for NZ$1.08 billion ($840 million).
