News Corp. Brings in Veteran Lawyer to Oversee Phone Hacking Probe

LONDON -- News Corp has hired veteran corporate lawyer Lord Grabiner to be the independent chairman of its beefed up management and standards committee dealing with the News International phone hacking storm.

The News Corp. appointment of Grabiner to chair its management and standards committee is a move aiming to send a message out that it is looking at the deepening crisis at News International from as independent a stance as it can.

The MSC will report to Joel Klein, News Corp. executive vice-president and board member, who in turn reports to Viet Dinh, an independent director and chairman of the company's nominating and corporate governance committee.

Grabiner, 66, is a commercial lawyer with more than 40 years' experience and repped Liverpool Football Club in the High Court here during the great club’s management turmoil recently.
