News Corp’s Sky-Italia Unveils New Video-on-Demand Service
The new service, called "Sky on Demand," will allow subscribers to access database of films, television programs and sporting events.
TAORMINA, Italy – News Corp. Italian subsidiary Sky-Italia on Thursday announced the launch of a new service called “Sky on Demand,” which will allow television viewers to view Sky-Italia content when they want it.
Sky-Italia officials said the service, will be included in the basic subscription fee, will be available to Sky-HD subscribers who have had their account for at least one year immediately, with other subscribers having access to the service starting Nov. 1.
The service will allow subscribers to access a library of 1,200 movies -- a figure expected to grow to more than 2,000 in the coming months, Sky-Italia said -- plus television series, children's’ programming, and sporting events at any time, via a built-in Internet connection.
Officials said they anticipate the My Sky HD decoder needed to access the service to become a “hub of a hybrid satellite-Internet platform that combined all viewing methods in one place.”
