Six called for panel duty at Sundance

Bob Shaye, Darren Aronofsky, Julien Temple, Rory Kennedy, Diane Weyermann and astronaut Buzz Aldrin will be among the featured speakers in the six-part Sundance Film Festival series "Panels at Prospector." Events include the counterculture examination "The Times Did They A-Change?" the activist film dialogue "How 'Movies that Matter' Can Matter," the galaxy's influence on cinema in "Space: A Guided Tour" and a conversation with New Line Cinema co-founder Shaye. The panels run Friday-Jan.-26 during the Park City festival.

3-point play: Amp'd pacts for hoops fare

Amp'd Mobile announced deals Tuesday with the NBA, CSTV and basketball lifestyle magazines Dime and Bounce that will bring games, highlights and other content to Amp'd Live, their mobile entertainment service. Under terms of the deal, Amp'd will provide a live stream from NBA TV, featuring games, daily news, highlights and the network's original series, as well as selected live games from college sports network CSTV. The mobile service also will feature live coverage and video-on-demand content of playground tournaments in the summer in conjunction with Dime and Bounce.

Joost aims at Web video via legal P2P

The peer-to-peer video platform formerly known as the Venice Project unveiled its official name Tuesday. Dubbed Joost, the video Web site serves as a TV distribution platform offering broadcast-quality content using the interactive tools of the Web. Operating through a legal P2P system, the platform guarantees copyright protection to content owners and creators. Joost is available now in private beta testing.

ESPN pair suits up for AFL coverage

NEW YORK — ESPN has tapped "Mike & Mike in the Morning" hosts Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic as its primary Arena Football League announcing team. ESPN recently acquired the rights — and an ownership stake — in the AFL, the indoor pro football league coming off a five-year deal with NBC. ESPN will televise 26 AFL games this season, starting with the New York-Dallas game March 4.

FSN, MyNetTV spar with IFL fight clubs

NEW YORK — The mixed-martial arts International Fight League said Tuesday that it has reached a multimedia agreement with FSN and MyNetworkTV that will include weekly shows on both networks. FSN will carry 22 one-hour events beginning in the second quarter for a multiyear term; the agreement also includes 22 two-hour programs, produced by the IFL, that will air on MyNetTV.

EU eyeing new rules for violent games

BRUSSELS — European Union justice and home affairs ministers agreed Tuesday to push for tougher rules on the sale of violent video and computer games to children. "These terrible things continue to promote violence," German Interior Minister Wolfgang Schauble said at the end of three days of talks with his EU counterparts in Dresden, Germany. Germany, which holds the rotating EU presidency, said it backed proposals by the European Commission to seek common sanctions against retailers selling violent games to underage children.
