DCI adds to d-cinema test program

Studio consortium Digital Cinema Initiatives said that as part of its work with CineCert to complete the validation of the DCI Digital Cinema Specification compliance test program, a specification will be created for test materials and the test materials themselves. Specialized test plans will be prepared for a variety of digital cinema hardware and software products, including servers and projectors. Another deliverable will be standardized test reports. DCI said in April that it entered a deal with CineCert to complete the validation of the compliance test program begun by the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits.

Cosgrove amid promotions at Discovery

Tom Cosgrove has been named senior vp and GM of Discovery Communications' Science Channel, directing the day-to-day operations of the network. In addition, Discovery Channel's production, development and programming teams have been realigned, with Jeff Hasler getting promoted to senior vp production and development. Three other vp appointments were announced: Deena Edwards has been upped from director of program planning to vp integrated program and promotions, while Mary Donahue and Liz Brach have been promoted to vps creative content.

Seattle honor for Hopkins

Anthony Hopkins will be honored with a lifetime achievement award at the 33rd Seattle International Film Festival, which runs May 24-June 17. The presentation will include clips from Hopkins' career, an onstage interview with the actor and a screening of 1993's "The Remains of the Day."

Fox int'l unit ups Londono to president

ROME — Fox International Channels has named Diego Londono its new president in the wake of Emiliano Calemzuk's departure for Los Angeles and the top job at Fox Television Studios, the company said Thursday. Londono has been a been a key player in the company, most recently working as vp in charge of marketing, sales and research.

822 Digital builds up offerings

Video game ad agency 822 Digital is marking its growth with a new print division, the addition of a live HD shooting team and its own director of business, the company said Thursday. The agency, which is marketing titles for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, has added four HD edit bays to its facility and named Lauren Faccidomo its director of business.

Parent firm holds off on IPO for AMC

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The parent company of AMC Entertainment Inc. said Thursday that it was suspending its initial public offering of shares in the theater chain. Marquee Holdings Inc. cited "adverse market conditions" for the decision. AMC, operating 382 theaters worldwide with a total of 5,340 screens, is the nation's second-largest theater chain.

Executive pair on move at Sundance net

Sundance Channel has promoted Timothy Boell to senior vp affiliate sales, while former executive vp affiliate sales Gretchen Beidl is moving into a new role as executive vp business development. Boell has oversight responsibility for all of Sundance's sales and distribution activities and will manage the network's affiliate sales team. Beidl will work with Sundance Channel president and CEO Larry Aidem on several initiatives, including the formulation and execution of an overall HD strategy.
