Peters grows up with Fox project

Fox has inked a script deal for a comedy project from comedian Russell Peters. Peters is writing and is attached to the untitled project, which is said to reflect the multicultural environment in which he and his manager brother, Clayton Peters at CPI Management Services, grew up. The brothers have nourished the idea for some time. "This is the most honest type of project that we could hope for," Clayton Peters said. "It's a project based on growing up with our own family, which was a working-class South Asian household."

Ion upfront lands 40-plus advertisers

Ion Media Networks said Monday that it has signed commitments from more than 40 new advertisers secured through Ion Television's first upfront advertising season since the network's rebranding. The commitments coincide with a new sales agreement between Ion and GroupM involving nine new clients — Macy's, Colgate and Mattel among them.

Suzuki president of Par Japan unit

Former Blockbuster Japan chief Junichiro Suzuki has been appointed president of Paramount's Japanese home entertainment division. In his new capacity at Paramount KK, Japan, Suzuki will be responsible for overseeing sales, marketing and distribution in the Japanese market. Suzuki joins PHEI from NPD Japan, where he was president and representative director. He had the same post at FedEx Kinko's Japan.

Rubin tapped as SPHE exec vp

Robert Rubin has joined Sony Pictures Home Entertainment as executive vp. Rubin will work with senior management on global strategic plans and also oversee business development and business affairs for sales, marketing and operations. He also will be responsible for the negotiation of key business transactions relating to SPHE's relationships with the creative community and spearhead the division's faith-based and family entertainment initiatives.

Four join New York film promotion board

NEW YORK — IFP executive director Michelle Byrd was one of four names added Monday to the board of the New York Production Alliance. The NYPA, now with 25 members, is a nonprofit group of organizations and individuals who promote film, video, new media and TV production in New York. Also added were Elias Scoropanos, assistant vp at HSBC Bank; Benjamin Whitehouse of Axium International; and John Held, former executive director of the Association of Independent Creative Editors.

CBS Records puts Jenkins in exec seat

NEW YORK — Larry Jenkins, who consulted for CBS during the development and launch of the newly formed CBS Records, was named executive vp and GM at the label on Monday. Jenkins will oversee the strategy of the label as well as manage the creative and business operations and lead the A&R process.
