NEW YORK — It's no go for Rosie. A possible deal for a one-hour talk show hosted by Rosie O'Donnell collapsed late Wednesday, days after the one-time moderator on "The View" said during the weekend at a Miami book fair that she was talking with MSNBC. O'Donnell's blog and other sources confirmed that plans for MSNBC to have her host a talk show at 9 p.m. weeknights fell apart after days of negotiations.
Robinson develops new role at Weinstein
Eric Robinson has been promoted to senior vp production and development at the Weinstein Co., where he continues to report to co-president of production Michael Cole. Based in New York, Robinson will work on developing and producing projects for the studio, focusing mostly on animated fare. He is overseeing projects like "Hood vs. Evil," the sequel to "Hoodwinked," which he also oversaw.
Cobbin in Fox's marketing basket
Darryl Cobbin has landed at Fox as executive vp marketing. Cobbin comes from Boost Mobile, where he was chief marketing officer. He will report to Fox marketing presidents Tony Sella and Pamela Levine and oversee the studio's publicity, promotions, media and online/mobile departments. He also will work with Sella and Levine to develop marketing strategies. Cobbin starts Nov. 26.
Park leaves Asian Film Market
SEOUL — Park Kwang-su is poised to step down as director of the Asian Film Market, organizers said Wednesday. Park led the market since its founding in 2006. It is held alongside the Pusan International Film Festival, the largest movie festival in Asia. A spokesman said there was no pressing reason for Park's departure and that he planned to lead the market for only a couple of years, adding that Park wanted to make time for his film projects. No replacement was announced.
Estefan adds rhythm to Dubai film fest
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Gloria Estefan will open a three-day musical program Dec. 13 at the Dubai International Film Festival. The festival has introduced Rhythm and Reels — a section within the festival that seeks to bring unusual and cutting-edge films together with live musical performances — at the open-air Dubai Media City amphitheater to celebrate the relationship between film and music. Estefan will headline a concert after the world-premiere screening of "90 Miles," directed by her husband, record producer Emilio Estefan. DIFF runs Dec. 9-16.
'Seattle,' 'Juno' bookend Bahamas fest
ThinkFilm's "Battle in Seattle," written and directed by Stuart Townsend, will be the opening-night film at the Bahamas International Film Festival, which runs Dec. 6-13 in Nassau, Bahamas. The fest, which will showcase 83 films from 26 countries, will close with Fox Searchlight's "Juno," directed by Jason Reitman.
