AEG in Asia Pacific facility deal

The ever-growing AEG has acquired an unspecified interest in Brisbane, Australia-based Ogden IFC and will form a new division to operate arenas, theaters, stadiums and convention and exhibition centers across the Asia Pacific region, it was announced Thursday. There will be 65 venues affiliated with AEG Ogden, including the O2 in London, Staples Center in Los Angeles and Telstra Stadium in Sydney. Ogden is in negotiations for new developments for China, South East Asia, India and the Gulf region of the Middle East. Reports said AEG paid more than $100 million to take a 50% stake in Ogden.

Instant Replay for DirecTV

DirecTV has purchased ReplayTV, the company that along with TiVo invented the DVR but was nearly sued out of existence. The parties would not disclose the price tag Thursday. DirecTV purchased the assets of ReplayTV from D&M, a Tokyo-based consumer electronics company that bought ReplayTV from SonicBlue, which bought the company in 2001, four years after it was founded. ReplayTV battled TiVo for supremacy in the late 1990s, and lost, and was nearly driven out of business in 2002 when television broadcasters and movie studios sued it over its ad-skipping features and ability to copy and share content.

Sehr heads Berlin's audience jury

MUNICH — German director-producer Peter Sehr will head the 58th Berlin International Film Festival's audience-based Dialogue en perspective jury, organizers said Thursday. The Dialogue en perspective award is presented to the director of a film in the Berlinale's Perspektive Deutsches Kino sidebar and is sponsored by the francophone TV channel TV5 Monde and the German-French Youth Office. The jury is composed of German and French applicants from the general public between ages 18-29. The 58th Berlin festival runs Feb. 7-17.

Ellis tops NextMedium marketing

NEW YORK — NextMedium, developer of an online brand integration marketplace, said that former online ad executive John Ellis has joined the company as chief marketing officer. Ellis was vp product management for ValueClick and vp marketing and product management for Fastclick, a display ad network sold to ValueClick.

Castify in the fold at Omneon

Omneon, a provider of media server and storage systems for the broadcast and digital content storage markets, has acquired Castify Networks, which develops software for managing the distribution of digital content over the Internet and private Intranets. Said Omneon president and CEO Joe Kennedy: "As our customers move to file-based workflows, our strategy is to provide the digital content infrastructure they need to efficiently and cost-effectively manage their assets."

Reiter directs ABC newsgathering

NEW YORK — ABC News has promoted David Reiter to executive editorial director, the network said Thursday. He will be responsible for newsgathering at the network, including assignments and sharing of editorial information and production resources. He reports to Kate O'Brian, senior vp news, who is in charge of news coverage strategy and reports to ABC News president David Westin.
