Next stop 'Cracktown' for 6 actors

NEW YORK -- Shannyn Sossamon, Vondie Curtis-Hall, Lara Flynn Boyle, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Mark Webber and Tony Plana will star in Buddy Giovinazzo's urban drug-addiction drama "Life Is Hot in Cracktown."

Sossamon will play a woman faced with the challenges of raising her sick child and supporting a husband (Victor Rasuk) who runs a drug-infested tenement building. Boyle plays Betty McBain, a cruel whore who leads a man off to find a missing girl.

Nicholas plays a rookie cop who relies on a street-toughened vet (Curtis-Hall) to show him the ropes. Webber plays a transvestite prostitute, and Kerry Washington plays a transgender co-worker.

Plana (best known as the father on "Ugly Betty") plays an alcoholic, and Edoardo Ballerini also appears as an abusive boyfriend in a neighborhood that has been ravaged by crack and crime.

In another cocaine-related part, Sossamon will reprise her guest role on producer-star Courteney Cox's FX series "Dirt" for the season finale, playing a dead actress who haunts the paparazzo who stalked her before she overdosed on cocaine.

"Cracktown," set to be produced by William Fisch and Larry Rattner with Braxton Pope, is based on Giovinazzo's 1993 collection of short stories.

Sossamon also stars in Goran Dukic's "Wristcutters: A Love Story," set for release in August through AfterDark Films. Her credits include "The Holiday," "40 Days and 40 Nights" and "The Rules of Attraction."

Nicholas, best known for his role in the "American Pie" films, has appeared in "Stealing Sinatra" and "Cut Off." Boyle's credits include "Men in Black II" and the ABC series "The Practice."

Webber appeared in two movies at this year's Sundance Film Festival: "Weapons" and "The Good Life." Acting credits for Curtis-Hall, who wrote and directed "Waist Deep," include "Eve's Bayou" and the upcoming "Honeydripper."
