A scouting combine, draft, regular season games and playoffs will precede the broadcast of Hallmark Channel's 'Kitten Bowl II' on "Su-purr Bowl" Sunday

Former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason has been named the commissioner of the first Feline Football League by Hallmark Channel.

Esiason — who played for the Cincinnati Bengals, New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals before segueing into a second career as a TV/radio personality and football commentator — will serve as a spokesperson for the FFL. The league will hold a scouting combine, draft, regular season games and playoffs, all leading up to Kitten Bowl II, premiering on Super Bowl Sunday (or "Su-purr Bowl," as Hallmark prefers) on Feb. 1.

"We couldn’t have formed history's first Feline Football League without an exceptional commissioner," said Bill Abbott, president and CEO of Crown Media Family Networks. "Boomer Esiason is the embodiment for everything the Feline Football League stands for, and we're excited to bring him on as the new face and leader of the network's newest league that celebrates pet adoption."

Esiason played for 14 years in the NFL; he was named the league's most valuable player in 1998 and became a four-time Pro Bowl quarterback. Esiason finished his NFL career with 247 touchdowns and 37,920 yards.

After retiring from the NFL following the 1997 season, Esiason began his career in the broadcast booth as a commentator for ABC's Monday Night Football. He also called games for Westwood One/CBS Radio Sports' Monday Night Football for nearly a decade and in 2002 joined CBS Sports as a studio analyst.

Additionally, he hosted a WFAN morning radio show as well as Madison Square Garden Network's The Boomer Esiason Show.

Kitten Bowl is part of Hallmark Channel's efforts to raise awareness of the plight of shelter animals across the country in partnership with North Shore Animal League America and Last Hope Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation, who will place the kittens in homes once the event is over.

Kitten Bowl II is from Eyeworks USA (ABC's Extreme Weight Loss), with the company's JD Roth, Todd A. Nelson, Adam Kaloustian and Brant Pinvidic executive producing and Jesse Drollette serving as co-executive producer.
