Nick Jr., Noggin put head together

Nick Jr. and Noggin are merging their creative and management teams under one umbrella dubbed Nickelodeon Preschool, with 19-year Nickelodeon veteran Brown Johnson set to lead the new team.

In her new role as executive vp/executive creative director of Nickelodeon Preschool and general manager of Noggin, Johnson will oversee development and production for all preschool programming across Nickelodeon networks, including Nick Jr., the programming block dedicated to preschoolers that airs on Nickelodeon from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. weekdays, and Noggin, Nickelodeon's commercial-free for preschoolers that airs from 6 a.m.-6 p.m.

In addition, Teri Weiss has been promoted to senior vp development and production at Nickelodeon Preschool, and Angela Leaney has been named senior vp/creative director of the new division, which the company called the "largest preschool and parent's destination in the world" with 109 hours of preschool TV a week, representing 56% of all preschool programming on television, according to Nickelodeon.

Johnson joined Nickelodeon in 1988 as executive in charge of production and worked her way up the ranks. She has been the driving force behind Nick Jr., where she was promoted to executive vp in 2001.

"Brown has pioneered genuinely interactive TV and created a place where parents and kids will find the most diverse, unique programs and characters around," said Tom Ascheim, executive vp/general manager of Nickelodeon Television.

Meanwhile, Weiss was vp development and production, responsible for many of Nick Jr.'s series including "Dora the Explorer" and "Go, Diego, Go!" She has been with Nickelodeon since 1999.

Leaney joined Noggin in 2000, most recently serving as senior vp brand communications, responsible for the strategic branding, on-air and online promotion and marketing of Noggin and the N, the nighttime network for teens.

Weiss and Leaney will report to Johnson.
