Nickelodeon to Launch SlimeFest Music Festival in the U.S. (Exclusive)

SlimeFest, which originally debuted overseas, will feature stars like Liam Payne, Zedd and Flo Rida this June.

This summer, Nickelodeon will bring its popular SlimeFest music festival to the United States, making it the first multi-day music festival aimed at kids and families to debut in the U.S.

SlimeFest, which launched in multiple countries in 2012, boasts more than 100,000 attendees to date, and now, in partnership with events promoter Live Nation (which owns Ticketmaster), Nickelodeon hopes to replicate its success stateside.

“Nickelodeon SlimeFest grew out of a great idea which started in some of our international markets where they successfully held concerts with slime,” said Cyma Zarghami, president of Viacom Inc.'s Nickelodeon Group. "SlimeFest will offer a little something for everybody — music that kids know and parents are going to know, interspersed with some really great activities."

Liam Payne, Zedd and Flo Rida are set to join Lip Sync Battle Shorties host JoJo Siwa as performers at the first U.S. SlimeFest, which will take place Saturday, June 9, and Sunday, June 10, at Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island in Chicago. Nickelodeon stars like Kel Mitchell and Benjamin Flores Jr. (Game Shakers), Riele Downs and Ella Anderson (Henry Danger), Breanna Yde (School of Rock) and Daniella Perkins and Owen Joyner (Knight Squad) also are slated to appear.

Also, Nickelodeon assures The Hollywood Reporter that there will be slime — lots of it.

According to the company, their research suggests that kids and parents are actively seeking more events to participate in together. SlimeFest is one of Nickelodeon's growing list of in-person properties, including SpongeBob on Broadway and the Nick Hotel, which aim to fill that void.

Zarghami puts it this way: “We have a great legacy of events for kids and families, and we know how to throw a great party — which is what SlimeFest is going to be. We’re bringing the Nickelodeon brand to lots of large audiences so we can get in front of multiple fan bases and let people connect with us in places where we are not always expected, and that’s been very successful for us.”

General admission and VIP tickets will be available beginning Tuesday at 10 a.m. (CT) via
