Nicole Kidman Glows on the Cover of Harper's Bazaar
The star of "The Paperboy" opens up about her "overwhelming and really strange" fame by association with Tom Cruise: "I didn't feel comfortable at all."
Nicole Kidman glows on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar in a shimmering golden Emilio Pucci gown with a Cartier gold cuff.
Inside, she showcases the latest looks from Dior Haute Couture, Missoni, Oscar de la Renta and Versace.
But Kidman also opens up about her past (Tom Cruise), her present (Keith Urban), her skinny arms and legs and her little belly.
On being married to Cruise: “In those early years, it was like, ‘I’m here and I’m clutching onto your arm, and it all feels a little overwhelming and really strange. And I was shy. Deeply shy. I didn’t feel comfortable at all.”
On her husband of six years, Urban: “He just gave me confidence through just being very kind to me and understanding me, opening me up to trying things, my sexuality, those sorts of things.”
On red carpet insecurity: “All of that other stuff becomes less important. Like, I’ve always had a little belly. I mean, now that I’m 45, they don’t say, ‘Oh, she’s pregnant!’ as much. But I’ve got skinny arms and legs, and then I’ve got a little belly.”
On posing on red carpets: “I find standing and posing for photos very awkward,” Kidman told HB, relating how she sometimes gets body makeup on her husband’s tux. “Red-carpet truths! I make sure to wear comfortable dresses because I want to be able to go out afterward and, you know, bend.”
On keeping her couture: She kept her legendary chartreuse Dior dress made by John Galliano that she wore to the 1997 Oscars. "It's packed in a box with tissue paper, and it will be donated to a museum." As for her other couture gowns: "whichever daughter loves clothes more will get dibs on all those. But I keep them in the same way that I'd keep a painting."
