Q4 profit due to revenue increase and charges

NEW YORK -- Media measurement firm The Nielsen Co. swung to a fourth-quarter profit due to a revenue increase and charges in the year-ago period.

Nielsen, the former owner of The Hollywood Reporter, posted a quarterly profit of $42 million, compared with a year-ago loss of $480 million. Revenue rose 17% to $1.2 billion.

For the full year 2009, Nielsen recorded a loss of $488 million, down from the year-ago loss of $502 million. Revenue was unchanged at $4.8 billion.
