Nine Network Names Browne Managing Director
Joins Australian TV Network from Nine's Melbourne Operations
SYDNEY -- Newly appointed PBL Media managing director David Gyngell Thursday named Jeff Browne as managing director of PBL’s television business, the Nine Network Australia.
Browne has been an executive director of the network for the last four years and currently heads up the network's Melbourne operations.
"Appointing Jeff Browne is just about the simplest and most warranted decision I'll ever make. I've come to know Jeff not only as a terrific operator but as an outstanding television executive. I look forward to working alongside Jeff as together we chart a robust and prosperous future for Nine," Gyngell said.
“Nine is on the cusp of a wonderfully productive period in its already rich history … this step up provides an even greater opportunity to steer the business to a new level, based on the growing strength of our Nine schedule and brand, exciting prospects for our multi channels and a reinvigorated commitment to news, sport and Australian drama," Browne added.
It has been reported here that PBL Media owner CVC Asia Pacific is preparing the company for a $5 billion IPO in 2011, although CVC sources have refuted this.
While the Nine Network will finish the ratings year at the end of this month ranked second behind its rival the Seven Network, Nine has the strongest growth of any of the commercial broadcasters, particularly in its target 25 – 54 demographic, where its audience is up 12.2% on 2009. The growth in audience for Go!, Nine’s younger skewing digital multichannel has been one of the success stories of the year.
