Chloe Zhao's Oscar-tipped film will premiere on the streaming service's Star hub in Britain before cinemas are currently set to reopen.

Chloé Zhao's Nomadland, one of the most honored films of the current awards season and heavily tipped for Oscars glory, is heading straight to Disney+ in the U.K. before cinemas are currently set to reopen.

The Searchlight Pictures title — starring Frances McDormand — will now premiere on the new Star hub on Disney+ in the U.K. and Ireland on April 30 and be made available to all Disney+ subscribers at no additional charge. Once cinemas reopen, currently set for May 17, the film will also be available for exhibitors to program.

It's a similar story across Disney's other European territories of Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Sweden and Iceland, where Nomadland will be landing on Star on April 30.

Nomadland recently won the Golden Globes for Best Motion Picture (Drama) and Best Director, alongside both the Venice International Film Festival’s Golden Lion for Best Film and the Toronto International Film Festival’s People’s Choice Audience Award in 2020.

Additionally, Nomadland was named film of the year by the London Film Critics Association, with Zhao awarded screenwriter of the year and McDormand actress of the year. The film also won the best international independent film at the British Independent Film Awards, with Zhao named best director by the New York Film Critics Circle, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, the Chicago Film Critics Association, the Boston Society of Film Critics, the Boston Online Film Critics Association, the Indiana Film Journalists Association, and the 2020 Critics Polls for IndieWire.
