Nordisk's three-year deal with Sweden's Brain Academy kicks off with the journalistic thriller 'The Perfect Patient,' starring David Dencik and Alba August.

Nordisk Film has signed a three-year output deal with Sweden's Brain Academy, giving the Scandinavian distributor exclusive access to upcoming projects from director Mikael Hafstrom (Evil, TV's Bloodline) and producer Helena Danielsson.

The deal, announced Saturday at the Cannes Film Festival, will see Nordisk handle distribution of future Brain Academy projects, as well as exclusively developing and producing Hafstrom's upcoming Scandinavian features.

The agreement will kick off with The Perfect Patient, which marks the director's return to Scandi cinema. The thriller, based on a true story, follows Sweden's greatest judicial scandal, when a journalist discovers the miscarriage of justice that led to a mental patient being imprisoned as the country's worst serial killer. The Snowman star Jonas Karlsson plays the journalist, and David Dencik, who appears in the upcoming James Bond film, is the alleged killer. Alba August, a European shooting star at last year's Berlin International Film Festival and part of the cast of the Netflix drama The Rain, also stars.

Nordisk will handle the Scandinavian release of The Perfect Patient, which is set to bow Sept. 20 in Swedish cinemas. TrustNordisk is handling international sales in Cannes.

After his breakthrough with the school bullying drama Evil in 2003, Hafstrom went to the U.S., directing such features as 1408 with John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson and Escape Plan starring Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. He also helmed multiple episodes of the Netflix series Bloodline. The Perfect Patient marks Hafstrom's return to Swedish-language cinema.
