'North Face' to open German fest


The Goethe-Institut in Los Angeles will kick of its third annual festival of German film, "German Currents: New Films from Germany/Focus Northrhine-Westpalia" on Sept. 30 with Philipp Stolzi's "North Face" (Nordwand) at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica.

Other programs in the series -- which will also screen at at the Redcat Theater in Downtown L.A., and the Goethe-Institut -- include Hans Christian Schmid's "Storm" (Sturm); Niko von Glasow's "Nobody's Perfect"; Marco Kreuzpaintner's "Krabat"; "Spotlight on North Rhine Wesphalia's Film Schools"; Christian Ditter's "The Crocodiles"; Jan Henrik Stahlberg's "Short Cut to Hollywood"; Hannes Stohr's "Berlin Calling"; Helma Sanders-Brahms' "Clara" (Geliebte Clara); Heinrich Breloer's "Buddenbrooks -- The Decline of a Family" (Die Buddenbrooks); and Ulrike Ottinger's "The Korean Wedding Chest" (Die Koreanische hochzeitstruhe).
