Now TV acquires exclusive HK PGA rights
Four-year deal for live coverage of all top golf events
HONG KONG – Hong Kong IPTV operator now TV has inked an exclusive deal with PGA Tour for the live broadcasting rights of all PGA tour events for the next four seasons, starting in January 2011.
Under the new partnership, now TV will broadcast full coverage of the PGA Tour and PGA Tour Playoffs for the FedExCup, World Golf Championships, Champions Tour and Nationwide Tour, including tournament previews, highlights, player interviews and other special features. Coverage will be accompanied by commentaries in English and Cantonese, a local dialect, provided by now TV. The golf coverage will also be available via video on-demand, as well as PCCW’s other platforms, namely, now.com, PCCW mobile and PCCW eye, a multimedia device.
Launched in 2003, now TV has over a million subscribers in Hong Kong at present. Its sports coverage relied heavily on soccer but has expanded into golf and tennis. After losing the rights to the hugely popular English Premier League in November 2009 and the 2010 soccer World Cup to local competitor i-Cable, now TV has since acquired rights to a number of other soccer leagues, including Spain's La Liga, the Italian Serie A, exclusive Hong Kong rights to French Ligue 1, and the rights to the official TV channels of top English and European clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and FC Barcelona.
