Number's up for six in '9'

Jennifer Connelly, Crispin Glover, Martin Landau, Christopher Plummer, John C. Reilly and Elijah Wood will voice the roles of rag dolls from a parallel universe in Focus Features' animated sci-fi feature "9."

The story is set in a world where the dolls band together to survive. Wood leads the ragtag bunch as the film's title character. Each has a number for a name, including a warrior (Connelly), an artist (Glover), a war vet (Plummer), an inventor (Landau) and a mechanic (Reilly).

Director Shane Acker is expanding his Oscar-nominated 2005 short film with producers Tim Burton, Timur Bekmambetov and Jim Lemley.

"This exciting and thought-provoking story has already drawn a strong filmmaking team together to work with Shane in bringing his visionary fantasy world to life," Focus CEO James Schamus said.

Focus' David Gerson is overseeing "9" for production president John Lyons. Focus is financing the feature and has worldwide rights. Pamela Pettler is scripting the project.
