Odeon Sky picks up Filmax's 'REC'

MADRID -- Odeon Sky Filmworks has picked up U.K. distribution rights of Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza's horror film "REC," Spanish production-distribution group Filmax Entertainment announced Wednesday .

The deal was negotiated during the Toronto International Film Festival between Filmax's CEO Carlos Fernandez, managing director Carles Rojano and head of international Vicente Canales and Odeon Sky Filmworks chief Tony Miller.

"REC," a supernatural horror thriller produced by Castelao Productions, screens this week at Sitges' Fantasy Film Festival. It tells the story of a young TV reporter and her cameraman who are taping a reality series when things go wrong.

"'REC' is one of the scariest films I've seen and we are thrilled to have secured the U.K. theatrical rights to this excellent horror movie," Miller said in a statement. "We're looking forward to building a successful ongoing relationship with Filmax Entertainment."
