The Emmy-winning actor will lead the 65th annual awards ceremony, honoring the best in theater.

It’s official: Neil Patrick Harris will return to host the 65th annual Tony Awards.

Harris, who stars in the CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother and is a veteran stage actor, previously hosted the 63rd edition. This year’s Tonys, which honor the best in theater, will air live from New York City’s Beacon Theatre on Sunday, June 12 on CBS.

“I’m honored and stoked to have been asked to host the 2011 Tony Awards,” said Harris in a statement. “It should be a great show – we’ve got a fantastic mix of live performances, a few secret surprises and since they’re closed for retooling, we’re using all the rigging equipment from Spider-Man. What could possibly go wrong?”

Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss of White Cherry Entertainment will executive produce the Tonys. Harris won a Creative Arts Emmy in 2010 for hosting the 63rd annual Tony Awards.

Harris hosted the Emmy Awards in 2009.

Last week, word spread that Harris may be returning for a second stint leading the awards ceremony.
