Oka, Torrence get 'Smarter' for WB DVD

Masi Oka and Nate Torrence, who are shooting Warner Bros. Pictures' big screen "Get Smart" film, are set to reprise their characters for "Get Smarter: Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control," being put out by Warner Premiere, the new direct-to-DVD and direct-to-platform production arm of Warner Bros. Entertainment.

Oka also has booked a role on Steve Conrad's feature "Quebec," underscoring how in-demand the breakout star from NBC's "Heroes" has become on his hiatus.

"Smarter" is not a sequel but is being positioned as parallel content to the feature film, and will be released domestically 10 days after "Smart." The script is being written by Tom Astle and Matt Ember, who also wrote the "Get Smart" film. The story will at times cross over with the feature film and the direct-to-DVD movie might even repurpose scenes from the feature.

Oka will play Bruce, a techie at spy agency CONTROL, while Torrence is Lloyd, a geeky analyst.

No director has yet been hired yet but the division hopes to shoot this summer, as "Get Smart" is wrapping up.

Producing are Charles Roven, Alex Gartner and Andrew Lazar. Astle and Ember are exec producing.

"Quebec," which serves as scribe Conrad's directorial debut, wrapped production last year. Dimension was impressed with what it saw and has committed to filming additional scenes and new characters. In the movie, which stars Seann William Scott and John C. Reilly as two assistant managers vying for a top job at a grocery chain, Oka will play the new character of a realtor who is trying to get Scott to buy a house.

Oka will next be seen on the big screen in comedy "Balls of Fury." He is repped by GVA Talent, Mosaic Media and attorney Chad Christopher.

Torrence, who was a regular on NBC's "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip," is repped by CAA, Messina Baker and attorney Lev Ginsburg of Hansen Jacobson.
