One Direction, 5 Seconds of Summer Among Best Global Act Nominees at MTV EMAs

MTV has whittled down a list of 286 international musical acts to just 10 to compete for the best worldwide act award at its upcoming EMAs in Glasgow on Nov. 9.

The list sees One Direction, representing Europe North, rub shoulders with their own investment, 5 Seconds of Summer (flying the flag for Australia and New Zealand), and Palestinian Arab Idol winner Mohammed Assaf, nominated on behalf of the somewhat sizeable geographical collective of Africa, India and the Middle East.

Others in the final 10 include German rockers Revolverheld (Europe Central), Polish teen heartthrob Dawid Kwiatkowski (Europe East), Italian soul singer Alessandra Amoroso (Europe South), South Korean hip-hoppers B.A.P (Japan, Korea), Mexican singer-songwriter Dulce Maria (Latin America), US all-girl X-Factor creation Fifth Harmony (North America) and Chinese reality show find Bibi Zhou (SE Asia, Mainland China & Hong Kong, Taiwan).

Previous winners of the Worldwide Act gong include Chris Lee (2013), Han Geng (2012) and Bigbang (2011).

As previously announced, Nicki Minaj is set to host the 2014 MTV EMAs, with Enrique Iglesias, Calvin Harris, Ariana Grande and Ed Sheeran due to perform.
