Oni joins 60Frames on Web
Launching Web shows, including one from Tom FontanaOnline entertainment distributor 60Frames said Wednesday it will team with comic book publisher Oni Press to launch Web shows, including one created by veteran TV writer-producer Tom Fontana.
The partnership will see the development of online shows paired with traditional comics. It will draw on upcoming and existing Oni titles with two original projects, "Ark" and Fontana's "Men With Guns: Assassin," as the first two announced shows.
"Men With Guns: Assassin" was originally a pilot script from Fontana, an executive producer and writer for "Homicide: Life on the Streets" and "Oz," and it will be re-imagined for Web and comic platforms. The show will follow a high-end assassin on the run and is intended to be the first of a "Men With Guns" anthology.
"Ark" is an original science fiction series created by Robbie Thompson and developed by Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, exec producers of the CW's upcoming "90210" spinoff. The Web show, set to launch in early 2009, will be a mixture of live action and CGI and follow a woman who unexpectedly wakes up on a spacecraft.
60Frames, first announced about a year ago, is fronted by former UTA agent Brent Weinstein. It released its first wave of shows this year; Hollywood veterans Joel and Ethan Coen and John August also are signed on to make projects for the company.
Its shows are distributed through a variety of online hubs, including MySpace, iTunes, Bebo and YouTube.
