Open Road Picks Up Family Film From 'Son of God' Producers

“I’m known for my politeness,” says Downey, who played the Virgin Mary in the series. “I think if it were up to me, I might still be out there in town, knocking on doors politely, hoping that someone would make The Bible series with us. My husband is less polite than I am, so he came up next to me and kicked those doors down.”

Directed by Alejandro Monteverde and produced by Roma Downey and Mark Burnett, "Little Boy" stars Emily Watson and Tom Wilkinson.

Open Road Films has acquired U.S. rights to Little Boy,  a new family film executive produced by Roma Downey and Mark Burnett, producers of the recent Son of God, through their Lightworkers Media.

Starring Emily Watson and Tom Wilkinson, the film concerns a 7-year-old boy who is willing to do whatever it takes to end World War II and bring his father home. The cast also includes David HenrieKevin James, Ben Chaplin, Michael Rapaport, Cary Tagawa, Ted Levine, Eduardo Verastegui and 7-year-old newcomer Jakob Salvati.

It was directed by Alejandro Monteverde and written by Pepe Portillo and Monteverde. In addition to Downey and Burnett, the producers are Verastegui, Leo Severino, Monteverde, Emilio Azcarraga (Televisa/Univision), Bernardo Gomez (Televisa), Micky Ohare and Sean Wolfington.

The deal was negotiated on behalf of Open Road Films by CFO and general counsel Elliott Kleinberg and executive vp production and acquisitions Peter Lawson, as well as by producers Wolfington and Severino on behalf of the filmmakers.
