O'Reilly heads to ReelzChannel

ReelzChannel has tapped industry veteran Terry O'Reilly for the newly created position of executive vp and GM, responsible for leading the movie-centered network's programming, marketing and on-air promotion efforts.

O'Reilly joins ReelzChannel after nearly 10 years with network parent Hubbard Broadcasting, most recently as president of Hubbard Holdings. He came to the Minneapolis/St. Paul-based media group in 1998 as president of CONUS, a Hubbard media venture with interests in television news and program production, broadcast satellite technology and television advertising sales.

Before Hubbard, O'Reilly was senior vp programming and production at the Weather Channel.

In his new role, O'Reilly will report to Gary Thorne, president and COO of ReelzChannel, whose tagline is "Everything About Movies — 24/7." The network launched in September 2006 with a schedule comprising primarily original programming mostly produced in-house at its studio in downtown Los Angeles.

"Because of our unique creative and physical assets, we are able to be more ambitious and nimble in our programming — to be more inventive," Thorne said. "That requires a program development strategy and a management approach that differ from other cable networks. We've created this new position to capitalize on the advantage that our assets provide and to build on our success. Terry is the ideal executive for this position."

Added O'Reilly: "I'm eager to work with the strong and talented team at the channel and be a part of taking it to even greater success and making it even more rewarding for movie fans."
