Orion Taps Kevin Wilson for Distribution Post
Wilson is coming from Open Road Films.
Kevin Wilson, previously an exec at Open Road Films, has joined Orion Pictures as executive vp distribution.
Orion is filling up its ranks since being relaunched by MGM in September to be the new stand-alone theatrical marketing and distribution outfit for the U.S. Orion president John Hegeman previously tapped former Sony Pictures exec Dan Kagan as vp, production and acquisitions.
According to Monday's announcement, Wilson, who will report to Hageman and who begins his new role at the company immediately, will oversee all aspects of theatrical distribution on behalf of Orion’s slate and acquisitions.
The company’s first release will be Every Day, the adaptation of the YA romance by David Levithan that is slated for a Feb. 2 opening. Michael Sucsy directed the movie, which stars Angourie Rice, Maria Bello and Debby Ryan.
“Kevin is a seasoned distribution executive who has built extensive relationships with both exhibition and studio representatives and has a proven track record in distributing films across all genres and release patterns,” Hegeman said in a statement.
Wilson most recently served as senior vp sales at Open Road. Before that, he was director of theatrical sales at Summit Entertainment, where he helped launch the Twilight franchise. Wilson also held positions at Deluxe Film Services and Twentieth Century Fox.
