Orphanage doc wins Tribeca audience honor

NEW YORK -- "We Are Together (Thina Simunye)," U.K. producer/director Paul Taylor's documentary chronicling the South Africa Agape Orphanage, won the Tribeca Film Festival's $25,000 Cadillac audience award Saturday evening. The film, which focuses on many children who've lost their parents to AIDS, also received a special jury mention in the feature documentary competition Thursday night. Festival co-founder Jane Rosenthal and Cadillac global marketing director Liz Vanzura presented the award. The Children of Agape choir has staged performances throughout the fest on opening night, at the Tribeca Family Festival and at the film's premiere. Taylor and his fellow producer Teddy Leifer will donate the $25,000 cash prize to the RISE Foundation, which provides school fees for the Agape children.
