Oscar-nominated directors on Taormina jury

Laurent Cantet, Ari Folman sign on for Italian festival

ROME -- France's Laurent Cantet and Ari Folman of Israel -- Oscar nominated this year for "The Class" and "Waltz With Bashir," respectively -- will be part of the jury at the 55th annual Taormina Film Festival, organizers said Monday.

The June 13-20 festival on the island of Sicily also will include the winners of the Nastri d'Argento (Silver Ribbon) awards, which will include a tribute to actor Nino Manfredi, who died in 2004 at the age of 83. The Nastri d'Argento are Italy's film honors as voted on by journalists.

The country focus at Taormina will be on France, including a total of eight contemporary projects, two of which will screen in Taormina's picturesque Teatro Greco.

Deborah Young, Taormina's third-year artistic director, is the chief international critic for the Hollywood Reporter.
