Oscar-Winning Director Kristof Deak Signs With Gotham Group
The Hungarian filmmaker picked up an Academy Award for his short film 'Sing.'
Kristof Deak has signed with the Gotham Group for representation.
The news comes on the heels of his big win at the Academy Awards earlier this year when his project Sing picked up the Oscar for best live-action short film. Deak, who directed the film and shared writing credits with Bex Harvey and Christian Azzola, shared the trophy with his producer Anna Udvardy.
Sing traces the journey of Zsofi, a young girl struggling to fit in at her new school. Singing in the school’s legendary choir brings her joy, but the choir director may not be the inspirational teacher everyone thinks she is. The Hungarian pic cleaned up on the awards circuit and is said to have picked up more honors than any other short film.
Sing's long list of accolades includes the Grand Prix, the best international short and audience awards at Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia, the People’s Choice Award at TIFF Kids Toronto, the audience award at the 32nd Festival du Cinema Européen Lille, the audience award at Festival Internacional de Cine Lanzarote, the best child actress award (for Dorka Gáspárfalvi and Dorottya Hais) and audience award at Sapporo Short Fest and the best live-action short film award at Chicago International Children's Film Festival.
Deak, who has no other representation, previously directed the short films The Boss and Losing It. He is currently working on Best Game Ever.
