Joan Rivers, Elaine Stritch and several others were left out of the ceremony's video tribute.

A number of recognizable people were surprisingly left out of this year's In Memoriam segment during the Oscar telecast.

Meryl Streep presented the video montage at Sunday's Academy Awards ceremony, which paid tribute to the many film-industry figures who died in the past year, including Robin Williams, Richard Attenborough, Lauren Bacall, Mickey Rooney, Bob Hoskins and Mike Nichols.

However, some notable names were omitted from the list, including the following five individuals.

Elaine Stritch

The Broadway legend, who also played Alec Baldwin's character's mom on 30 Rock, appeared in films such as 1957's A Farewell to Arms, the Jennifer Lopez comedy Monster in Law and the Woody Allen movies September and Small Time Crooks.

Joan Rivers

The stand-up comedy icon and TV personality was not as known for the big screen, but she did have roles in such films as The Muppets Take Manhattan and Spaceballs, not to mention being a red-carpet fixture at the Oscars.

Jan Hooks

She is perhaps best known for Saturday Night Live but also made appearances in Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Batman Returns and Simon Birch.

Taylor Negron

The versatile character actor is remembered from memorable roles on TV's Seinfeld and Friends, along with in films including Fast Times at Ridgemont High and The Last Boy Scout.

Richard Kiel

Richard Kiel and Roger Moore

He appeared in The Longest Yard, Silver Streak and Happy Gilmore, but his best-known role is that of Jaws in the James Bond franchise.

An Academy rep responded to Rivers' omission with a statement: "Joan Rivers is among the many worthy artists and filmmakers we were unfortunately unable to feature in the In Memoriam segment of this year's Oscar show. She is, however, included in our In Memoriam gallery on Oscar.com."
