Oscars: 'The Shape of Water' Wins Best Original Score
Alexandre Desplat accepted the award at the 90th annual Academy Awards.
Alexandre Desplat won best original score for The Shape of Water at the Academy Awards on Sunday night.
Desplat began his speech by giving a shout-out to his mother. He then thanked the director of the film, Guillermo del Toro.
"Thank you for letting music be the voice of your character," he said.
He ended his speech by thanking his wife and family.
"This is for our daughters," he said as he lifted his award.
The Shape of Water (Alexandre Desplat) beat out Dunkirk (Hans Zimmer) Phantom Thread (Jonny Greenwood) Star Wars: The Last Jedi (John Williams) and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (Carter Burwell).
Jimmy Kimmel returned as host of the Oscars, which took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
