Chris Pine Fights to Reclaim Scotland in 'Outlaw King' Trailer
The David Mackenzie-directed film also stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Florence Pugh, Billy Howle, Tony Curran and Stephen Dillane.
Netflix released the first trailer for Outlaw King on Monday (Aug. 20).
In the film, Chris Pine stars as Robert the Bruce, the King of Scots. The epic story tells his struggle to regain control of Scotland after the King of England declares he is an outlaw following his decision to begin a civil war.
Outlaw King was directed by David Mackenzie, who also co-wrote and produced the film. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Florence Pugh, Billy Howle, Tony Curran and Stephen Dillane also make up the cast.
The opening of the trailer gives a glimpse of the former King of Scots' life after he is declared an outlaw. He is separated from his family, who are grilled about his whereabouts. His brother is hung when he states that he doesn't know where Robert the Bruce is.
"I'm done with hiding and I'm sick of hiding," Robert the Bruce says. He is later seen reuniting with his wife Elizabeth de Burgh (Pugh), who declares her support for him.
"We need to unite Scotland," he decides. While many powerful individuals, including Edward I of England (Dillane) and Edward, Prince of Wales (Howle), are outspoken about the danger of Robert the Bruce, others join his fight to reclaim Scotland from the occupation of England. "I have 50 men to fight the strongest army in the world," says Robert the Bruce. His new army of men includes James Douglas, Lord of Douglas (Taylor-Johnson).
A number of epic battles are shown in a montage that also includes the 50 men donning armor and riding their horses into another battle. "You can fight for God, for country, for family. I do not care so long as you fight," Robert the Bruce tells his army at the conclusion of the trailer.
The film is slated to open the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 6. It will later launch globally on Netflix on Nov. 9.
