Netflix has released a new trailer for its upcoming animated adventure musical Over the Moon.

The family film's star-studded voice cast includes Cathy Ang, Phillipa Soo, Ken Jeong, John Cho, Ruthie Ann Miles, Sandra Oh, Robert G. Chiu, Margaret Cho and Kimiko Glenn. It was directed by Disney veteran Glen Keane, whose credits include work on Beauty and the Beast and the Oscar-winning Kobe Bryant animated short Dear Basketball.

In this modern reimagining of a classic Chinese legend, 13-year-old Fei Fei (voiced by Ang) attempts to connect with her deceased mother through a myth her family regularly recounted to her when she was little: the story of the Moon Goddess, who waits on the moon "for her one and only true love." Desperate to hold on to her mother's memory, Fei Fei sets out to prove the Moon Goddess is more than "a silly myth" to a family who doesn't believe her.

But when the young girl builds a spaceship and launches it into the sky, her ship is knocked around and nearly crashes. Instead of Fei Fei and her bunny tumbling back to Earth, they find themselves transported to the stunning and magical world of the moon. There, she finds the actual Moon Goddess (voiced by Soo), but she's far from what Fei Fei expected. "Nothing like Mama said she would be," Fei Fei says in the trailer as she quickly realizes the goddess is actually a pop singer who regularly performs for her adoring fans when she's not ruling her kingdom made up of aspiring celebrities.

When the Moon Goddess announces she'll grant one wish to the person who finds and brings her one true love back, Fei Fei, her bunny and an alien named Gobi set out to return the young girl home and prove the myth is reality.

A mix of comedy, musical and drama, the animated film was scored by Steven Price with songs by Christopher Curtis, Marjorie Duffield and Helen Park. Co-directed by John Kahrs (The Incredibles) with a screenplay by the late Audrey Wells (The Hate U Give), Over the Moon is produced by Pearl Studio which was behind Abominable. The Netflix animated film is slated to start streaming on Oct. 23.
