Overture stitches laughs together

Overture is going the cutup route. The Liberty Media studio has pacted with comedy veterans Peter Farrelly and Charles Wessler for a feature that will involve a who's who of comedy creators.

Farrelly and Wessler — who collaborated on such '90s comedy hits as "Dumb & Dumber" and "There's Something About Mary" — will produce the untitled project, which will encompass as many as 24 shorts on various comedic subjects.

Peter Block's A Bigger Boat is making the movie in conjunction with Overture. John Penotti will produce and Tim Williams will executive produce for GreeneStreet Films International, which will handle foreign sales. Overture will handle the domestic release.

The principals confirmed that they were in talks with veteran directors including Brett Ratner, Todd Phillips and Mike Judge to direct and/or write various segments. "Blades of Glory" writers Josh Gordon and Will Speck also are in talks on the project, while Farrelly will direct two of the segments himself.

At present, Bobby Farrelly is not involved in the project.

Other actors and directors from across the film world, even some not known for comedy, also could come on board.

The project follows in the vein of sketch-comedy classics like "Kentucky Fried Movie." (partialdiff)
