The Annapurna drama follows a Muslim immigrant and Bangladesh Air Force veteran who works to have his hate-crime attacker spared just days after 9/11.
Pablo Larraín has his eye on The True American.
The Oscar-nominated director of Jackie and Neruda is attached to direct the Tom Hardy starrer for Annapurna Pictures, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The film is an adaptation of Anand Giridharadas’ 2014 nonfiction book The True American: Murder and Mercy in Texas. It centers on Rais Bhuiyan, a Muslim immigrant and Bangladesh Air Force veteran is shot just days after the Sept. 11 attacks. Yet he works to have his attacker spared from execution.
Megan Ellison, Kathryn Bigelow (who at one point was attached to direct), Matthew Budman and Juan de Dios Larraín are producing.
Larraín is repped by CAA and Management 360.
