Palm Springs fest awards Anna Kendrick

Actress honored for her 'Up in the Air' performance

Anna Kendrick will receive the 21st annual Palm Springs International Film Festival's Rising Star Award for her performance in the upcoming "Up in the Air."

The prize will be presented during the fest's Awards Gala on Jan. 5 at the Palm Sporings Convention Center, which will be hosted by "Entertainment Tonight's" Mary Hart.

Festival chairman Harold Matzner made the announcement at a private event at the home of Patricia Barry in Beverly Hills that was hosted by festival board member Stephen Breimer.

"Anna Kendrick is an extremely gifted young actress. At age 12, she received a Tony Award nomination for best featured actress in a musical for her role as Dinah in 'High Society.' Now in her mid 20s, she has gone from strength to strength with each succeeding screen roll," Matzner said.

"Up," directed by Jason Reitman and starring George Clooney, will be released by Paramount on Dec. 4.

Kendrick's other credits include "Camp," "Rocket Science" and "Twilight," as well as its sequel "New Moon."

The festival itself will run from Jan. 5-18.
