Pantages theater to add 10 stories

The Pantages theater in Hollywood is going back to the future.

A New York developer has announced plans to build 10 stories of office space on top of the Art Deco masterpiece, using the original blueprints from 80 years ago but upgrading them to meet current earthquake safety standards.

Plans to build the additional stories over the Pantages were scrapped after the 1929 stock market crash.

The developer, Clarett Group, plans to start construction next month, at a cost of $75 million to $100 million. The work, part of a massive redevelopment planned in and around the famous intersection of Hollywood and Vine, could take four years.
