Paolo Sorrentino's 'Youth' Picked Up by Fox Searchlight
Expect this drama to be released in time for awards season.
Fox Searchlight has picked up North American rights to Youth, the newest film from Paolo Sorrentino, the Italian director behind the Oscar-winning foreign film The Great Beauty.
The movie, which is premiering at the Cannes Film Festival, stars Michael Caine, Rachel Weisz, Harvey Keitel and Paul Dano.
The plot revolves around two longtime friends, one a renowned conductor (Caine), the other a well-known filmmaker (Keitel), who are vacationing in the Swiss Alps. When a rep from the British royal family asks the conductor to perform at Buckingham Palace, an event he does not want to do, it causes the two men to reflect on their pasts.
Weisz is playing Caine’s daughter.
A release later in 2015 is being planned.
“Paolo’s masterful film projects an extraordinary wisdom and grace. Anchored by Michael Caine’s emotionally riveting performance and buoyed by an exceptional supporting cast, Youth is, simply put, a film about life and living told in the most cinematic of terms,” said Searchlight presidents Stephen Gilula and Nancy Utley in a statement.
