Former Par exec Richard Zimbert dies


Richard Zimbert, a business executive at Paramount Pictures for nearly two decades, died Oct. 4 in Los Angeles after a long illness. He was 80.

Zimbert spent nearly 20 years at the studio before retiring in 1994 as executive vp and general counsel.

Before that, he was vp and general counsel for American International Pictures, an executive vp at Aaron Spelling Prods. and vp business and legal affairs for ABC.

A Chicago native, Zimbert worked as a business manager for the Leo Burnett Co. from 1955-61, then became a broadcast department administrator for the J. Walter Thompson Agency. He joined ABC in 1965.

Highly regarded in film business circles, Zimbert spoke at numerous conferences and lectured at USC. After his retirement, he consulted for DreamWorks and several entertainment law firms.

Zimbert is survived by his wife of 53 years, Suzanne, four children and seven grandchildren. The family asks that donations be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
