Par hires Bell to get technical
EmptyAlan Bell has been named executive vp and chief technology officer of Paramount Pictures, the studio said Monday.
In the newly created position, Bell will oversee Paramount's worldwide technology strategy — including the development of technologies in relation to digital distribution and the implementation of digital rights management and anti-piracy — while advising the studio on related technical, business, legal and regulatory matters.
He will re-port to Rob Moore, president of marketing, distribution and home entertainment, who made Monday's announcement.
"Alan is a recognized and respected leader in digital rights, anti-piracy and digital distribution technologies," Moore said. "His experience will be a major asset to Paramount as we explore new opportunities to expand our digital operations."
Bell comes to the studio from Warner Bros., where as executive vp advanced technology he managed the strategic technology efforts of digital motion picture content.
From 1995-2000, he held a variety of positions at IBM, where he played a key role in managing intellectual property licensing and technical activities related to the development of DVD. Before that, he was a senior scientist for Exxon Mobile Corporate Research.
Elected a Fellow of the IEEE and the Optical Society of America, Bell holds more than 25 U.S. patents and applications.
