Paris Designer Haider Ackermann Pops Into Mr. Chow
Tilda Swinton's favorite designer showed his fall 2013 collection at a private reception thrown Saks Fifth Avenue and some of L.A.'s most fashionable women.
In case you don't know who Haider Ackermann is, he's a somewhat avant garde Belgian designer who shows every season in Paris, is known for expertly cut leathers, jackets, pants, leggings, suits and shoes and happens to be the favorite designer of both Tilda Swinton and Janet Jackson. Tilda's worn him on the red carpet at both Cannes and the Golden Globes, and they often travel together and have a very designer/muse relationship.
He is also the designer Karl Lagerfeld has said should succeed him at Chanel. How's that for a compliment?
Ackermann was in L.A. this week to attend a Thursday-night cocktail party and showing in his honor hosted by Hollywood style personalities Rochelle Gores Fredston, Angelique Soave and Mary Alice Hainey held at the private room at Mr. Chow in Beverly Hills. It was attended by Rosetta and Balthazar Getty, Mad Men costume designer Janie Bryant, Katherine Ross, Crystal Lourd, Robert Keith of cult brand Hoorsenbuhs jewelry, designer J.C. Obando, stylist Patrik Milani, Lawren Howell, photographer Douglas Friedman, Minnie Mortimer, Vaunte's Christian Leone, accessory designer Kendall Conrad, Liane Weintraub, Michel and Sally Perrin, Cameron Silver, China Chow, Brooke Davenport, stylist George Kotsiopoulos, Christos Garkinos and Jenny Belushi. Clearly Ackermann is is a fashion-set favorite.
His fall look is a bit horsey and tweedy, heavy on the gorgeously designed and shaped jackets, all nipped in the waist with tiny belts, and more cropped pants than skirts. When an attendee told Ackermann she had just bought an expensive pair of his strappy summer shoes, the normally shy designer said, "You only bought one pair of my shoes?" He also confessed he might be jetting into the Cannes Film Festival near the end of it with a certain strawberry blonde actress who favors his clothing.
