Parm Sandhu quits as head of Unitymedia

Following Liberty Global's $4.9 bil of the German cable group

COLOGNE, Germany -- Parm Sandhu has resigned as CEO at Unitymedia following Liberty Global's €3.5 billion ($4.9 billion) of the German cable group.

Gene Musselmann, president and COO of Amsterdam-based UPC Broadband, another of Liberty's European cable assets, will take over as Unitymedia CEO.

The Unitymedia deal, signed late last year, gives John Malone's Liberty Global a beachhead in the German cable market, something Malone has been trying for since his bid for Deutsche Telekom's massive cable network was blocked by competition watchdogs back in 2002.

With Unitymedia and its other assets -- UPC Broadband, Swiss service Cablecom and Telenet in Belgium -- Liberty's European footprint will exceed 40 million cable households.
