The comedian goes to absurd lengths to ensure nobody was offended by a joke.

Patton Oswalt has come to the defense of Trevor Noah in a big way — with 53 tweets.

After Noah was criticized for several jokes made on Twitter over the past several years, Oswalt tweeted a single joke, and then followed up with a series of politically correct follow-ups and clarifications, going to absurd lengths to ensure nobody was offended by the joke.

On Monday, Noah was tapped to succeed Jon Stewart as host of The Daily Show. Following the announcement, people began unearthing the tweets — some or them several years old — which critics construed as offensive to women and Jews. Both Comedy Central and Noah have defended the tweets, with Noah tweeting, "To reduce my views to a handful of jokes that didn’t land is not a true reflection of my character, nor my evolution as a comedian."
