Patton Oswalt and Meredith Salenger Are Married
"What’d you guys do yesterday?"
Patton Oswalt and Meredith Salenger have officially tied the knot.
The comedian/actor, 48, and actress-legal mediator, 47, got married on Saturday, according to Oswalt's series of tweets.
The couple, who made their red-carpet debut together in June at the Baby Driver premiere in Los Angeles, became engaged 15 months after Oswalt's wife, Michelle McNamara, died unexpectedly. Oswalt's 8-year-old daughter Alice was a flower girl at the wedding on Saturday.
When they announced their engagement this summer, they were criticized from outside observers, who said their decision to wed was too soon after Oswalt's wife had died.
Oswalt and Salenger defended their relationship, citing a blog post from Erica Roman, who also lost her spouse and congratulated Oswalt and Salenger in her essay.
"It makes my heart happy to see that his heart has continued to move forward, that it has healed and expanded to the place where he can now love another," Roman wrote, speaking to "dear ignorant, judgmental, assholes" who criticized Oswalt's engagement news.
"You aren't entitled to an opinion. You don't get to comment on the choices of a widower while you sit happily next to your own living spouse. You didn't have to stand and watch your mundane morning turn into your absolute worst nightmare," she wrote. "Go back to scrolling Facebook and keep your ignorance to yourself."
Oswalt won an Emmy last year for his comedy special Patton Oswalt: Talking for Clapping, and debuted his most recent standup special, Annihilation, this fall on Netflix. Salenger's acting credits include Disney's The Journey of Natty Gan and Lake Placid.
