Paxman cometh to Edinburgh

LONDON -- Leading BBC political inquisitor Jeremy Paxman, presenter of nightly current affairs show "Newsnight," will deliver the 2007 MacTaggart lecture, kicking off this year's Media Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival, it was announced Monday.

Paxman is expected to deliver his views on media, politics and the role of the media in the political debate. Viewed as perhaps the foremost political interviewer in the U.K., Paxman has spent more than 20 years as a BBC reporter.

The 32nd James MacTaggart lecture will kick off this year's Edinburgh TV festival, a three-day confab of workshops, lectures and screenings that runs Aug. 24-27.
