PBS Kids Sprout acquires 'dirtgirlworld'

Canadian-Australian series mixes animation, photomontage

TORONTO -- PBS Kids Sprout has acquired "dirtgirlworld," a Canadian-Australian preschool cartoon series that mixes animation and photomontage to tell music-driven stories.

The hybrid series that urges kids to get grubby in a big world was first developed in Australia by Cate McQuillen and Hewey Eustace of Mememe Productions, before Toronto-based Decode Entertainment structured "dirtgirlworld" as a Canadian-Australian series to complete its financing.

The cartoon series also airs on CBeebies in the U.K., on the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. in Canada and on ABC Australia.
