PBS Picks Up Finnish Sauna Doc 'Steam of Life'

Local box-office hit was Finland’s Oscar contender.

PBS has picked up U.S. television rights to Steam of Life, the Finnish sauna-set documentary which was Finland’s official contender for the 2011 Foreign Language Oscars.

PBS will air Steam of Life as part of its documentary series POV. Nordisk Film closed the U.S. deal ahead of international small screen market MIPTV next week.

Steam of Life missed out on a Foreign Language Oscar nom but the doc, which features Finns in saunas talking about their lives, has been a commercial hit at home – running for a record 52 weeks in Helsinki theaters - and a critical hit abroad.
