Peace Arch acquires 'The Line'

Will shop the crime drama at MIPCOM

TORONTO -- Peace Arch Entertainment on Thursday picked up the worldwide rights to "The Line" from Canadian producer the Nightingale Co., and will shop the crime drama at MIPCOM.

The series about unethical cops and uncommon criminals intersecting in a neighborhood drug war has an ensemble cast that includes Sharon Lawrence, Linda Hamilton, Ed Asner, Ron White, Daniel Kash and Cle Bennett.

Canadian playwright George F. Walker and Dani Romain created and wrote an initial 15 one-hours of the crime drama, which will debut in Canada as "The Weight" in the spring 2009 on pay TV networks Movie Central and the Movie Network.

Toronto-based Peace Arch grabbed the worldwide rights to the Canadian drama, excluding most of Africa, France and European French-language markets.
